Between River and Sea...

Between river and sea,
By morning or evening light,
It’s me and my dogs -
Strolling
Up, down, around
Hills, beaches, parks -
All gifting enough
Splendid natural beauty
To make a poet gush;
From the lookout
The wet thread of Swan
Curls
Round the Spit and spreads east -
Suddenly
Wide, like spilt paint-wash -
Sometimes a pinging blue
With lemonade sparkle,
Often reflective grey
Dressed in cloud-shadow so
A striking sombreness rinses
Boat wakes, spinnakers, shore;
Catch sun or full moon rising
And glow graces paddling pelicans,
Peppermint gums and wings of
Cockatoos, cormorants, herons
With Heavenly message -
Where better to
Savour life’s riches than here,
Between river and sea?
